CITIZENS FOR RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT

Growing community through fiscal responsibility

About the Citizens

The Citizens for Responsible Government is a collection of business owners, political leaders and concerned citizens dedicated to growing Bismarck for the future.

The “Citizens” are a grassroots organization formed in response to the Bismarck city commission’s endorsement of Measure #1 which would increase the Bismarck city sales tax from 1% to 1.5% in an effort to raise funds for city, park, county and school district  capital projects.

The Citizens recognize that Bismarck has a wonderful park system and are dedicated to helping it grow, this can be done without an increase in taxation.  Members agree that some of  the projects outlined in the proposal are quality projects and there may be  a legitimate need.  However, through a growing tax base and increased property tax assessments due to increase values, these are all goals that can be accomplished without the added burden of a sales tax increase.

The Citizens for Responsible Government are dedicated to working for you the taxpayer to promote responsible planning and spending in our city, county and state.

The Park District Board has never voted to increase the sales tax by 1/2 cent. It voted to raise the sales tax by 1/4 cent.  An advisory board of private interest groups voted for the 1/2 cent sales tax increase.

Winston Churchill
We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.
